Collaboration:Healing Homes

Earlier this year we responded to Editor-in-Chief of Olise Magazine, Founder of Africa Design Week and all-round Interiors Expert, Bilen, for her open-call for donations.

We were thrilled when Bilen got in touch with us remarking that she would love us to donate two of our Signature Jatobá cushions towards Furnishing Futures, and so we did just that.

Jatobá Cushion

At our core, Jatobá values are transparentised around connections between people, materials, and the spaces they inhabit. We are dedicated to designing hand-made, high-quality products accessible to all at a fraction of the cost, as well as providing both charitable and inclusive workshops to all communities. Which brings me onto the amazing work carried out by Furnishing Futures.

‘Furnishing Futures is an innovative new charity founded by former social worker and interior designer, stylist and writer Emily Wheeler. We combine social work values with interior design skills to create trauma-informed, fully furnished healing homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse who are placed in empty social housing or living with furniture poverty, and who have experienced multiple disadvantages and trauma.’

After reading Furnishing Futures’ story and aims through briefly interacting with Bilen, we quickly learned about their positive and powerful message surrounding the importance of Healing Environments and collaboration in order to achieve peaceful, practical and well-thought out homes for those seeking refuge and a fresh start.

The journey for Jatobá and Furnishing Futures does not end here. Though small, we are committed to donating to this cause. There will be charitable events coming in the near future to support this notion of intent.

As our first notion, however, we kindly ask readers to explore Furnishing Futures and ways to get involved in order to support this charitable cause.
